Commonly referred to as “Ho Chi Minh” sandals, these were standard footwear for the North Vietnamese Army (NVA or PAVN) and the Viet Cong (VC). Manufactured from re-purposed vehicle tires, they stood as a symbol of resourcefulness. Some U.S. soldiers also wore this type of sandal on base camps as shower shoes. This pair was captured by Ambrose “Sam” Szalwinski (Dynamite Six), who commanded the 8th Battalion, 6th Field Artillery, 1st Division 1967-1968.
