Flight Helmet

This leather German Luftwaffe flying helmet was captured during Operation Husky, the Allied invasion of Sicily, in July 1943.

Brought back by Theodore Dobol, he served with the 26th Infantry Regiment throughout all its campaigns in World War II. He would spend 26 years total with the regiment, becoming the first non-commissioned officer promoted to the rank of Command Sergeant Major.

His decorations include four Silver Star medals, two Bronze Star medals, and five Purple Heart medals. An infantry squad leader, Dobol participated in every 1st Division amphibious invasion in WWII.
