Susan Eisenhower will present highlights from her recent book How Ike Led: The Principles Behind Eisenhower’s Biggest Decisions. “This book is a retrospective of Dwight D. Eisenhower’s wartime and presidential leadership. Ike was a strategic leader who relied on a rigorous pursuit of the facts for decision-making. His talent for envisioning a whole, especially in the context of the long game, and his ability to see causes and various consequences, explains his success as Allied Commander and as President. After making a decision, he made himself accountable for it, recognizing that personal responsibility is the bedrock of sound principles. How Ike Led is part leadership book, part history and part memoir with new insights on the man that only a family member could offer.”

MEET THE SPEAKER: Susan Eisenhower is a policy analyst, business consultant, speaker and writer with over 30 years of experience in national security, leadership and related strategic issues. Through her travels to the republics of the former Soviet Union and accompaniment of their transition to independence as well as her engagement with issues of post-Cold War disarmament, the future of space science and nuclear energy, she has provided analysis on these topics for major network television. Her op-ed articles and essays have featured in newspapers such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, the Naval Institute’s Proceedings, and the National Academy of Sciences Issues in Science and Technology. An eight-year member of the National Academy of Sciences Standing Committee on International Security and Arms Control and NASA’s Advisory Council, she visited Russia’s #1 top secret nuclear weapons facility in 2002 and 2003 during her tenure with three blue ribbon commissions for the Department of Energy. Her most recent book, How Ike Led: The Principles Behind Eisenhower’s Biggest Decisions, received acclaim nationally and internationally. Eisenhower is Chairman Emeritus of the Eisenhower Institute and founder of The Eisenhower Group, Inc, a Washington, D.C.-based consulting company.
